So I got the crazy idea to try yarn braids. I should have know better, I quit after the second row because I have no patience lol.
I usually do a henna treatments every month and I knew that if I did the yarn braids I would miss that treatment. So I decided to due a protein treatment with Aphogee Keratin 2 Minute Reconstructor to my hair before the yarn braids to keep it strong.
After taking the yarn braids I noticed that my hair felt dry and brittle even though I had deep conditioned my hair. My hair actually been feeling that way all week, but I thought my hair was just due for a deep conditioning. The dryness bothered me, but I didn’t what was the cause. I was doing my usual YouTube video watching, when Cipriana of Urban Bush Babes discuss how there’s protein in coconut oil. That made me pause, because I had sealed my hair with coconut oil. At this point in my natural hair journey I knew about protein overload, and how it can make hair dry and brittle. I also remembered that my leave-in conditioner contained protein.
So it all clicked, and I got to googling how to remedy protein overload. I found the best thing to do is to keep deep conditioning and stay away from all forms of protein. So that’s what I’ve been doing, I deep conditioned my hair two days in a row, and using my Jane Carter Nourish and Shine to seal in my moisture.
So right now I’m just waiting for my hair to get back to normal.
